Organization of Your Collection.

Once you have a collection of crystals, it might be good to label some stones (especially ones of same color) so you can quickly find the one you’re looking for. This is particularly important if you plan to use your crystals, such as in healing practices.

There are a myriad of ways to organize your assortment.

By Chakra:

Grouping crystals by which chakra they are associated with will help you quickly identify which crystals are best for working with each chakra. For example, keep your Tourmaline, Bloodstone, Obsidian, Hematite, Garnet, and Red Jasper together since they all work for the Root Chakra.

By Planets:

Putting stones together that have the same ruling planet will help you quickly identify which crystals are best for working with a particular planet’s energy. For example, put your Lepidolite, Sugilite, Amethyst, Moldavite, Azurite, and Strawberry Quartz together in a bowl, as they are all associated with the planet Jupiter.

By Element:

Most crystals resonate with one or more of the four elements, Earth, Air, Fire, and Water. Storing these stones together ensure that your stones will stay energized and this storage system will help you quickly identify which crystals are best for working with each element’s energy. Just be mindful of which elements will balance each other, rather than diminish their energies. For example, you might not want to keep a Water element store like Aquamarine next to a Fire element like Sunstone.

By Color:

Remember when we told you that crystals vibrate at particular frequencies? Well so do colors! Organizing and storing your crystals by color not amplifies and harmonizes their natural resonances. And it can look quite pretty. For example, place Amethyst, Lepidolite, Charoite, Purple Kunzite, Grape Agate, and Sugilite in a wood dish since they are all part of the purple color family.

By Family:

Crystals can be grouped together by common material properties. For example, Amethyst, Citrine, Chalcedony, and all Quartz varieties are part of the Quartz family.

By Size:

A quick and obvious way of organizing your collection is by keeping crystals of the same size together. For example, you can put some of your smaller tumbled stones together in a glass dish, while your larger specimens are set out for display on your bookshelves.

By Hardness (ie: Mohs score):

Protect your stones from scratches and other damages when storing multiple types of crystals together by arranging them according to their Mohs score. You would want to store soft stones with other soft stones (not hard ones that might scratch them). For example, store your Rubies in a different container than your Flourites, because Ruby has a hardness of 6 on the Mohs scale while Fluorite is a 4.

By Use or Intention:

If you plan to get your crystals to work for you, it might be a good idea to arrange some of your collection by their purpose. Physical, emotional, energetic, or medical might be some possible groupings. You can even make complete sets of your crystals. For example, if you are going to use your stones for Chakra Healing, you can make a little set of one of each crystal associated with each Chakra.

Proper Care and Storage of Crystals.

Once you have three crystals, you have a COLLECTION!

Touching and handling your stones reinforces your connection to them. But, they do deserve and require proper care and storage.

Home Decor

You may choose to use some of your stones as home decor. You can have your stone on display on a shelf or windowsill. Crystals looks spectacular atop a stack of your favorite books.

Just keep in mind that some crystals do not do well in direct sunlight; they will fade. Also, crystals do not like dust. Being covered in dust actually will deplete the stone’s properties and powers.

Crystals do love all things associated with the Earth, such as soil and plants. Stones make natural additions to plants and pots, particularly terrariums. It’s easy to place one of your favorite stones inside a glass terrarium next to plants such as succulents. Putting a Black Tourmaline chunk in your potted tree at your entry way is a wonderful way to shield your home against negative energy.

Storage Options

It’s generally a good idea to store the same crystals together, since they have the same vibrations.

While visiting one our favorite local shops, we discovered a cool new way to display crystals…using vintage candlesticks. We loved this idea as it not only looked pretty, but it also allows us to repurpose items rather than purchasing new ones to exhibit our specimens.
